Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I choose Mack's Pals?
Because I LOVE dogs! Since starting my business I feel as though I have an extended dog family. I treat all the dogs as if they were my own and I understand that every dog is different. Even my own dog Mack can be very nervous when having his nails done so I take my time and try to make it as stress free as possible for him. I will have this patience and understanding with all dogs that come to Mack's Pals. It's really important to me that your dog feels safe in the salon.
What does Mack's Pals do in case of emergency?
I call you (the client) first to discuss the situation and to sort out the best plan of action. If you cannot be reached I will then call your emergency contact. If no one is available and medical attention is required, I will take your pet to your designated vet or the nearest vet to my current location.
Can you meet me first?
Yes, of course you can. The grooming salon is a very stimulating place for a dog and none of us know how they will react. You can book a quick meet and greet so your dog knows it's safe and will be looked after. During the meet and greet, they will be shown the equipment and given lots of positive reinforcement and treats if allowed. Your pets health and happiness is my first concern.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for minimum of 24 hours notice. This will help me reorganise my diary and book in another customer so I don't miss out on business.
How soon can my puppy be groomed?
I would recommend bringing your puppy to the salon two weeks after their final injections. They can come for their free short taster session where I'll make them feel at home and they can have lots of fun exploring.
How do you handle aggressive dogs?
Sometimes nerves can be mistaken for aggression so I will always try to work with your dog to make them feel safe. I understand that the salon can be a scary place for nervous dogs so I will always put theirs and my safety first.
Would you ever stop a groom?
Yes, if I feel the dog is becoming too distressed or aggressive. Your pet's welfare is always my first concern. If I felt the need to stop the groom, I would always call you to discuss the situation and see if we can get through it together.
What if my dog is matted?
Don't worry, these things happen but hopefully we can work together to prevent it happening again. I will always ask you to sign a dematting waiver form if you own a breed that can be prone to matting. Following the Animal Welfare Act, I can only try to attempt to demat your dog for up to 15min. Anything longer than this can unfortunately leave the dog very distressed and uncomfortable which makes clipping the sensible and kindest option. On the occasion where I feel your dog needs to be clipped off, I will try to call you beforehand. Please don't worry though as the coat will always grow back and your dog will feel so much nicer. *There will be an extra charge for matted dogs*
What if I am late for my appointment?
I understand that these things happen but sadly arriving more than 15 minutes late may result in your pet not being groomed due to time constraints between appointment slots. It is equally important to collect your pet at the arranged time.
Do you groom dogs in season?
Unfortunately not. The reason being is because female dogs can act differently when in season and also the scent of your dog can remain in the salon and could cause the male dogs to behave erratically putting them and me at risk.
Would you groom my dog if she was pregnant?
I would not want to take the risk. As above, the salon can be a very stimulating place for a dog and I wouldn't want to put the mum through any unnecessary stress.
What if my dog has fleas?
Please always tell me when booking your appointment if your dog has fleas. I will book it as the last appointment of the day and use a flea shampoo to help get rid of them. By being advised, I can treat my salon after the groom using a flea bomb which means the fleas won't transfer to other dogs. I'll always advise you to continue the flea treatment at home. There will be an extra charge for this service.
Are you insured?
Yes, I am fully insured and am happy to provide documents.
How do I pay?
I accept cash or card payments
